Alleycross Recap.

T’was a muddy and painful success.

Big thanks to Brian Davies for letting me use his barriers and spreading the word on his massive email list, Kyle for making the flier, Jason and Brooks for helping me spread the word super last minute, and all the freaks who came out to get wet and dirty with me.

Considering there was only a two hour notice I was stoked to see 7 guys come out to race and a couple others come out to make noise and yell at the racers.

Also considering that it was raining so hard on the ride from the ped bridge to the park that I could barely see in front of me I think it was safe to say that the conditions for the race were perfect and helped to turn what would have been an easy course into a painfully sloppy course.

Aside from the shot of the ped bridge and the shot right above this I didn’t come anyway with any shots from the race. Feeling bad though I decided to go back out there today and take some shots of the course in case anyone who didn’t come was wondering what it looked like.

It was basically a funky figure-8 course that was ridden over and over again for 40 minutes. Whoever had the most laps after that 40 minute mark was the winner.

The course started on the main trail in the park…

then it cut off the path and into the parking lot for a short while just so there would be a double curb to bunnyhop…

then it cut back onto the grass to hit these two random humps that were mandatory run-ups…

then it hit a sloping side that was nice and muddy and led back to the trail…

then it was back to the trail for some barriers (sorry no pic) and more mud…

then a quick trip over a bridge (I was initially worried about that rock on the left that didn’t leave all that much room to bike through but luckily it was all good)…

then it cut off from the trail to go across a field to eventually hit this…

it was a long stretch underneath an overpass that had stretches of both mud and sand

annnnd then it started all over again pretty much.

The faster guys of the bunch were able to swing 4 minute laps, finishing ten during the time limit, and the slower guys were able to swing 6.5 minute laps, finishing about seven. Ray took the top spot and had a nasty lead on everyone for pretty much the whole race, Bryce killed it on his single speed and took second, and Cyclebum James got the close third. As thick as the mud was and considering each lap had 6 barriers to jump over and 2 run-ups to deal with everyone who raced definitely earned their beast status.

Also, while I might not have any shots of the race/post race luckily James just uploaded some mud porn to his site:

Good stuff guys.

Keep your eye our for the next one.
