Cross Cap.

Before I get to the cap let me first thank Hammerhead Bikes for providing some good loot for the winners, Brooks & the Social Cycling ATX folks for also throwin in some loot, Joe Doyle for figuring out this course, bringing the barriers, and taking the guys around the course before the race started, Elliott, Jason, and Les for helping get the word out, Chris for sending me the awesome photo above and leaving a case of cold beer for everyone, and Elliot and Brooks for manning my camera and doing their best to get some shots in complete darkness (while getting eaten up by mosquitoes).
As for the cap…
The turnout was pretty big with a lot of familiar faces and a good handful of new guys. Unfortunately there were about 5 or 6 guys who couldn’t race because they forgot to bring a light and didn’t feel like messing around in the pitch black, but that still left us with 11 racers.
Compared to the last time when 5 or 6 of the guys couldn’t finish this race treated everyone a little nicer with only Chris, James, and Len getting a flat. Chris caught himself on one of the sections with a bunnyhop and ripped a big hole in the sidewall of his tubular. Pretty shitty, but on the bright side he only lived a couple blocks away and he was able to take that badass photo of his busted knee.
Those who didn’t get a flat were either chasing Wiley or getting passed by him. Wiley held the lead for the race and had Ray on his tail the entire time.
Wiley finished what he started during the last race and, with no flats, was able to finish first.
Ray got himself second, and Bart came in third.
Those three guys, in addition to Matt and Eardie, were all able to get 9 laps in within the 35-40 minute time limit. The other guys were still able to get 8 laps in so everyone was riding hard and fast the whole time. Good stuff.
Some of the guys were talking about maybe having another one of these races this weekend and if Austin keeps confusing it’s weather with Portland’s I’m thinkin that might have to be arranged. Let me know what y’all think.

Cyclocross introduction and training session at the Montopolis Youth Sports Complex SATURDAY OCTOBER 10 @ 3 PM. Learn how to dismount and run barriers. All welcome. Bring your mountain bike, road bike (with wide tires) or ‘cross bike. The location is 800 Grove Boulevard (78741) at the east end of the Colorado River Park, south side of the river. Sounds good to me, if it turns out to be too early to get a big turnout i’d also be down just to get some good cross training in. ill let ya know

I might be down for some practice…but I’m not sure I want to race in NW park again…too many small dogs. And I’m bringing a pit bike and maybe a pit car to make sure I don’t have to walk/get pushed home again.
